Publications overview

Most of r3.0’s work is available to the general public through its publications. Below you can find the most recent publications from r3.0 including our regular newsletters.
Blueprint 1: Reporting

The Reporting Blueprint is the first pillar of the Reporting 3.0 work ecosystem and sets the scene for the other Blueprints to follow. It It analyses disclosure needs from the perspective of a green, inclusive & open economy. Assessing the needs to connect the micro (organisational) performance with the meso (industry and habitat) level up the the macro (thriving economic system design and regenerative capitalism) level the Blueprint defines 6 desiderata and 9 principles and embeds the idea of ‘integral thinking’ and ‘integral materiality’.

Blueprint 2: Accounting

How can accounting and corporate finance be transformed to serve a new purpose? How can it serve a multi-capital green & inclusive economy definition of success and value-creation in a circular economic setting? How can accounting be redefined as being not only about recording financial transactions, but about tracking of both financial and extra-financial data and their forward-looking interpretation in an appropriate context? This includes a context of addressing risks and opportunities associated with diverse (e.g. social, natural) capitals.

Blueprint 3: Data

The Data Blueprint proposes a general specification for data architecture and information systems to accurately measure progress toward financial, economic, social and environmental sustainability via dynamic interlinkages between the individual company (micro), industry (meso), and environmental, social, and economic systems (macro) levels in order to spur the emergence of a truly green, regenerative, inclusive, and open global economy.

Blueprint 4: New Business Model creation for integral and system value creation
Blueprint 4: New Business Model creation for integral and system value creation

The New Business Models Blueprint builds on the foundation of the first three Blueprints to propose a new approach to business models that integrates considerations from multiple perspectives. Accordingly, we establish a working definition of what we call Integral Business Models.

To set a baseline, the New Business Models Blueprint conducts a comprehensive literature and practice review to assess the current state of play and thinking around sustainable business models, and identifies five clusters of thinking and practice. The Blueprint then draws from the other three Blueprints to collate a set of aspects that add economic system redesign considerations to the existing current new business models practice / thinking.

The Blueprint then identifies a selected set of Implementation Methods for seeding Integral Business Models in both bottom-up approaches by entrepreneurs incubating startups and early stage companies, and inside-out approaches by intrapreneurs to transform existing business models for navigating the transition of emerging economic, social, and ecological realities. The Implementation Methods fall into the following broad categories, with more specific categories (including, for example, performance and compensation metrics):

  • Governance & Strategy
  • Risk & Innovation
  • Scenario Analysis & Transition Planning
  • Roles & Strategic Leadership

To support integration of both General Characteristic assessment and Implementation Methods, the Blueprint provides an Integral Business Models Process Flowchart, and well as a Template for hands-on guidance. To “road-test” these materials, and illustrate movement toward Integral Business Models (since none currently exist), the Blueprint includes three Case Examples of startup / early enterprises (VDMbee, ReBlend, and Co-op Power) self-administering (in a structured process) the Process Flowchart and Template.

Blueprint 5: Transformation Journey

The Transformation Journey – A Step-By-Step Approach to Organizational Thriveability and System Value Creation

Welcome to the collective journey to transform the greatest challenges in human history into opportunities for humanity to survive and thrive! With the clock ticking, our economic system design needs to change drastically to enable a Green, Inclusive and Open Economy to come to life through the sustainable regeneration and just distribution of vital resources.

Reporting 3.0 started in 2013 to tackle the challenges that were going unmet. Our aspiration is to create “irresistible” solutions through a pre-competitive and market-making approach that helps to overcome plateauing ambitions and allow for a synchronized and synergized way to collectively “get the job done.”

How can you make best use of this fifth Blueprint? Invoking Interface Founder Ray Anderson’s metaphor of “Mount Sustainability,” we invite you to embark on a mountain climb.

  • You start at the basecamp and make sure you are mentally well prepared;
  • You carefully plan your route, you socialize with the team, and make sure all gear is available and stress-tested for the forthcoming climb;
  • You take the climb one step at a time, with a clear goal in sight, but also resilient to change routes in response to dynamically changing circumstances;
  • The closer you come to the mountain top, the more you will collaborate with other teams to collectively reach that mountain top.

All chapters in this Blueprint have consistent subchapters covering:

  • What’s the issue?
  • Why is it important?
  • How can I tackle it?
  • What will have I learned afterwards?

Based on the Transformation Journey Reporting 3.0 has developed a modularized offer to everyone interested, wherever you stand in your own development towards aligning to a Green, Inclusive and Open Economy, and whatever level you represent in the nano-micro-meso-macro clustering.

Together, we can succeed, and then help many more to take the journey too!
