Convenings
r3.0 has a rich history of curating convenings in diverse formats, which we are now leveraging in support of the bioregioning movement. We curating Convenings in three formats: Dialogues, Conference and Conflences.
Below, we share details on each of these modalities:
Dialogues
We will pursue Dialogues in two formats: Open Dialogues, and Bioregional Carrying Capacity Sessions that we are co-hosting with the Design School for Earth Regeneration.
Open Dialogues on Bioregioning
In January 2024, in response to demand from our community, r3.0 introduced the Open Dialogue format of 90-minute Zoom calls focused on diverse topics, featuring invited presenters to frame the issues for discussion with participants openly invited from the r3.0 ecosystem and the public at large.
In 2025, we are dedicating a series of monthly Open Dialogues to Bioregioning. You can find more information on these sessions on this page dedicated to the series, and on our YouTube Channel . We will also announce these sessions in advance on our social media channels, and will post recordings / decks / Zoom chats afterwards.
Bioregional Carrying Capacity Sessions
In October 2024, after conversations with the Accountability Accelerator of the Global Commons Alliance (GCA), we drafted a research and piloting Proposal on Bioregional Carrying Capacity Measurement & Management. To explore this line of inquiry, we agreed to facilitate Themed Dialogues for the Design School for Regenerating Earth exploring aspects of bioregional carrying capacity measurement and management. After hosting 2 Themed Dialogues for the Design School, r3.0 and the Design School partnered to offer these sessions publicly going forward. We will also announce these sessions in advance on our social media channels, and will post recordings / decks / Zoom chats afterwards.
Conference
After more than a decade of hosting our International Conference focused on diverse themes, we pivoted in 2025 to focus our 12th International Conference exclusively on Bioregioning, as reflected in its title: Catalyzing Bioregional Resilience & Regeneration: Learning to Reinhabit Earth Together
In 2026, we continued this exclusive focus on Bioregioning in the 13th r3.0 Conference, as reflected in its theme: Bioregional Regeneration as Collapse Resilience: Earth-centric Biocultural Kinship, Knowledge & Governance. And we will continue this focus going forward.
Bioregional Confluencing
The other major innovation we introduced with the 2025 Conference was the addition of parallel Bioregional Confluences. This development built on the prototyping and piloting of the Confluence format by our Advocation Partner And Now What, with the Equinox Collective. Convened in person in Belgium in tandem with the 2024 r3.0 Conference, Confluence participants engaged in the Conference together, then integrated the content through facilitated group processes.
Building on this foundation, r3.0 expanded the Confluence process by inviting bioregions to host their own autonomous Confluences in parallel with the r3.0 Conference. This enables bioregional groups to benefit from the content of the Conference, while also pursuing their own deliberations and development.
To support cross-pollination of learnings, r3.0 hosts Confluence Reflection Sessions throughout the Conference, enabling Confluences across the globe to share their experiences.
Confluence Community
To support bioregional groups to organize Confluences in 2025, r3.0 hosted a series of calls (with our Advocation Partner And Now What) to provide guidance. In the last of the 3 scheduled calls, the Confluence Organizers shared a plea to continue hosting these calls, as they appreciated the developing sense of community.
We gladly responded by hosting Confluencing Community Calls on a monthly basis ever since. Each Confluencing Community Call follows a similar format, with a Spotlight segment featuring an in-depth look at one Bioregional Confluence group, followed by an opportunity for all Confluences present to share lightning updates on recent developments.
To support the continuing growth of the Confluencing Community, we share the presentation decks publicly, but to honor the integrity of the Community, we only share the recordings internally within the Confluencing Community.

Global Bioregional Month: September 2026
In early 2026, members of the Bioregional Coherence Circle (where r3.0 serves as Interim Steward) noticed a convergence of large-scale bioregional gatherings in September 2026, and so proposed framing it a Global Bioregional Month. When we ran the idea by the rest of the Circle, it met with unanimous support.
The original gatherings inspiring Global Bioregional Month are:
- r3.0 Conference | Bioregional Regeneration as Collapse Resilience: Earth-centric Biocultural Kinship, Knowledge & Governance | September 8-10
- Global online audience, mostly gathering via in-person Confluences of bioregional groups
- 11th Turtle Island Bioregional Congress (TIBC11) | September 15-19
- For the first time in 17 years, a Continental-scale Bioregional Congress hosted in-person in Vernonia, Oregon, in the heart of the Cascadia Bioregion.
- Mediterranean Bioregional Activation hosted by the Design School for Regenerating Earth | September 27-29
- Design School Community Soil Tender Elyes Mkacher is co-hosting this event in Tunisia to activate bioregional organizing across the entire Mediterranean Bioregion.
